Hello everyone, I hope you are all doing well over there.
I heard from my parents yesterday that
China has 3 days of mourning from
the19th May, which is today, till 21st May. By the time I came into the office this morning, the three-min
ute silent mourning for the earthquake victims in China ha
d finished, but I’ve noticed some of the big websites have continued the mourning by changing the colour of their front page
s into just black and white.
During the past week, I’ve been reading the news from some of the large Chinese portal websites. I have to say I’m proud of
being Chinese – the quick response of the medical services, the high speed deliveryof goods, the large amount of money being donated voluntarily by our fellow countrymen…
When such a deadly disaster happens, especially when you are living outside the country, the attached feeling of everything that is going on is just indescribable.
TheTV news here does have coverage of the earthquake, but I heard in China you can watch live rescue operations on TV and 24 hour news update
s on the situation
; I wish I could watch it so that I know what is happening with the people in Wenchuan.
The telephone conversations between my parents and me recently have been all about the earthquake. My mum works in a hospital in Xi’an
and she was telling me that a medical rescue team
from her hospital was sent outlast Friday to Wenchuan to continue the rescue work; many other medical teams from all the large hospitals
were sent there as well. My mum said everyone from the hospital who’s qualified, signed up to go; people want to do whatever they can to help the people in the disast
er area.
I wish I could just get on a plane and be there to help! As I am sure that’s what everyone of us living outside the country wants to do. Here in London, the Chinese society organized
anappeal in China Town for Sichuan on Sunday to raise money.
Chinese flags are flying at half-mast here in London as well
; let’s pray for the people who are still to be found and let’s hope
miracles will happen!
Best wishes,
Feifei
